4 hurt in crash involving van, box truck, pickup truck at Manitowoc/Sheboygan County line

MANITOWOC COUNTY -- Four people were hurt, three seriously,  following a crash involving a van, a box truck and a pickup truck at the Sheboygan County/Manitowoc County line Tuesday, Jan. 16.

It happened shortly before 10 a.m.

The preliminary investigation indicates a 48-year-old man from Milwaukee was operating a 2004 Chevrolet Express Van northbound on I-43 when he lost control while changing lanes. He proceeded through the median and into the southbound lanes of traffic -- at which time he collided with two vehicles traveling southbound.

The 48-year-old man was trapped in the van. He was extricated by Jaws of Life and transported by ambulance for serious but non-life threatening injuries.

A 49-year-old man from Suamico, WI was operating a 2017 GMC pickup trick southbound at the time of the crash. He and his passenger, a 40-year-old man from Green Bay, were also transported by ambulance for serious by non-life threatening injuries.

A 69-year-old man from Green Bay was operating the third vehicle involved. He was driving a 2018 International straight truck southbound on I-43 at the time of the crash. He was transported by ambulance for minor injuries.

Officials say speed and weather conditions appear to be contributing factors in this crash -- which remains under investigation by the Manitowoc County Sheriff's Office.

The roadway was reopened shortly before noon.
