Waterloo School District closed Wednesday after threat found on social media

JEFFERSON COUNTY -- The Waterloo School District is closed Wednesday, Feb. 21 after a threat was found on social media.

The Police Department has taken one person into custody.

Due to the ongoing matter, it was the recommendation of law enforcement that the Waterloo School District be closed on Wednesday. This includes all classes, after school conferences, and activities.

The Waterloo School District posted the following statement to their Facebook page:

Waterloo School District Parents, students, and staff;

This afternoon, following the conclusion of the school day, School District officials were notified of a threatening post that was circulating on a student’s social media account. School officials launched an investigation into the post. That investigation has continued throughout the evening with more details unfolding in various stages. The Police Department has taken one person into custody, but due to the continued investigation, there are details that may still be unknown. Due to the ongoing matter, it is the recommendation of the law enforcement that the Waterloo School District be closed for Wednesday, February 21, 2018. This includes all classes, after school conferences, and activities. Parents, students, and community members are encouraged to contact the Waterloo Police Department with any information that may aid in the investigation.
