Johnson Creek landfill fire; multiple crews respond, no injuries

A fire broke out at the Deer Track Landfill near Johnson Creek on Thursday night, Oct. 17.

The Johnson Creek Fire Department said it was dispatched immediately to the "working still" level due to the size and location of the fire around 8:45 p.m. The landfill is located on Waldman Lane near I-94.

Within minutes, firefighters made were on the property and found the significant fire atop a large hill in the center of the landfill. Access to the fire was initially limited due to the terrain and contents of the landfill, but crews were able to get there and begin extinguishing the flames shortly after they arrived.

Additional agencies responded moments later and helped attack the fire, deploying nearly 1,000 feet of fire hose. It took nearly an hour to contain the fire to its area of origin, the fire department said. The entire incident lasted approximately two hours. 

No injuries were reported. No property damage was reported. 

Personnel from the Deer Track Park Landfill were also on scene and assisted operations with multiple pieces of heavy equipment.
