Gov. Walker's campaign paid $28,300 campaign finance penalty

MADISON — Gov. Scott Walker's campaign paid $28,388 in penalties last year to the Government Accountability Board for accepting corporate contributions and exceeding contribution limits.

The majority of that stemmed from a $28,150 settlement for exceeding contribution limits in the 2014 fall election cycle. That was the largest payment made last year in campaign finance settlements between the GAB and lobbyists, campaigns and others, which totaled $68,593.

The 2014 limit for individual contributions was $10,000 for the governor's race.

Republican Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald's campaign also paid $5,990 in penalties for exceeding the 2014 contribution limit. And the campaign for Joint Finance Committee Co-Chair John Nygren, a Republican from Marinette, paid $2,400 in penalties.
