Milwaukee apartment arson, man arrested
MILWAUKEE - Fire crews were on the scene of an apartment fire near 31st and Wisconsin Sunday morning, Dec. 26. Milwaukee police said this was arson, and a Milwaukee man, 19, was arrested.
The fire was contained to one unit.
The Red Cross is helping 18-20 residents, setting up a shelter at the Alverno College Gymnasium, at 3401-3499 S 39th St, Milwaukee, WI 53215 for people affected. Red Cross officials are providing meals, health/mental health resources and safe, comfortable confines.
In an update Sunday night, the Red Cross said the fire affected the central part of the apartment complex, with heavy water and smoke damage on the second and third floor. The whole building is without power, and the whole complex has been evacuated. There is no update as to when residents can return to their homes. The Red Cross is working with the residents to find permanent housing.
