Firefighters battled a fire at the Packard Plaza Strip Mall in Cudahy on Friday afternoon, Nov. 8.

Emergency crews were dispatched to the mall just after 1 p.m. Friday. The first crews reported smoke coming from the front of Eddie's Liquidation Center, a furniture and home goods store.

Firefighters initially attempted to make entry through the front of the building and were forced out by heavy heat and fire.

The fire was found in a portion of the business that is used to warehouse merchandise. Officials say this provided large amounts of combustible material, high piles of materials and limited access for firefighting crews.
