Cudahy strip mall fire; furniture and home goods store heavily damaged
CUDAHY, Wis. - Firefighters battled a fire at the Packard Plaza Strip Mall in Cudahy on Friday afternoon, Nov. 8.
Emergency crews were dispatched to the mall just after 1 p.m. Friday. The first crews reported smoke coming from the front of Eddie's Liquidation Center, a furniture and home goods store.
Firefighters initially attempted to make entry through the front of the building and were forced out by heavy heat and fire.

The fire was found in a portion of the business that is used to warehouse merchandise. Officials say this provided large amounts of combustible material, high piles of materials and limited access for firefighting crews.

The fire intensified. After a second alarm was requested, the fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes.

The Cudahy Fire Department says the business was occupied at the time of the fire, but everyone was able to escape to safety unhurt.

Officials say fire damage to the warehouse portion of the business is extensive. There was also heavy smoke damage to the adjacent sales floor and office.
