Dodge County stabbing; man's thumb nearly severed during argument

The Dodge County Sheriff's Office is investigating a stabbing that occurred in the Town of Herman on Jan. 28. A 32-year-old man has been arrested. He has no legal status in the U.S., officials say.

What we know:

According to the Dodge County Sheriff's Office, around 9:20 p.m. that day, deputies were dispatched to an address on County Road S near County Road U in the Town of Herman for a report of a stabbing.  

Law enforcement responded to the scene and learned that a 23-year-old man from Herman had his thumb nearly severed by a 32-year-old man.

The victim exited the residence and was met by responding deputies who provided him with medical treatment before he was transported via ambulance to Aurora Summit Hospital.  

The initial investigation showed that the assault stemmed from an argument between the two men.

Arrests

What we know:

The 32-year-old man was taken into custody and booked into the jail on charges of first-degree reckless injury/great bodily harm and substantial/aggravated battery. He was also booked into jail on an outstanding warrant.

The victim was also taken into custody, following medical treatment, and is being held in the Dodge County Jail on warrants.

The Dodge County Sheriff's Office said it was later discovered that the suspect in this incident has no legal status in the U.S. 

The man is from Nicaragua and already has immigration proceedings occurring. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency has been made aware.

This is the second incident that occurred this week in which a subject with no legal status committed serious criminal infractions in Dodge County, the sheriff's office said in a news release.
