Suspect flees from Milwaukee police and crashes, 1 person dead

One person is dead and three were injured after police say a suspect fled from an attempted traffic stop and caused a  crash in Milwaukee on Friday night, May 3.

According to the Milwaukee Police Department, at about 9:18 p.m., officers attempted to stop a vehicle with a stolen plate when the vehicle drove away, traveling north on 27th near Hadley.

The subject vehicle then ran a red light striking a van that was traveling west on Locust, which caused the van to roll over, striking a third vehicle.

Fatal crash at 27th and Locust

The suspected driver of the vehicle, a 25-year-old man, fled on foot, but was later arrested after a food pursuit. A gun was recovered from the vehicle.

A 25-year-old passenger was conveyed to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

A passenger in the rolled-over van was pronounced dead at the scene.

The 49-year-old driver was taken to a local hospital and is in serious condition, but is expected to survive. A 57-year-old passenger was also taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition.

The driver of the third vehicle is 34 years old and was carrying two children, ages six and eight. They were treated at the scene.

Charges are pending review by the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.
