Pewaukee train derailment; no injuries or environmental hazards
PEWAUKEE, Wis. - A train derailed in Pewaukee near Somerset Lane and Parkside Road shortly after 6:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19.
Before there was the sight of boxcars flipped and crews working, there was a sound. The sound of screeching and crashing woke some neighbors up.
"I was sleeping, and I actually recognized the sound of derailment. This wasn’t my first time. (In) downtown Milwaukee it happened to me," said Kerrie Clark. "Living so close to the tracks, I always worried about the derailment. Here it is."

The mayhem left families in one neighborhood stuck.
"That’s our road out," said Clark, who lives near the derailment.
Based on the initial investigation, authorities said it appears a Canadian Pacific cargo train was traveling eastbound through Pewaukee. The train was in the process of slowing to a stop when a boxcar derailed from the train tracks – causing one tanker car and seven other boxcars to derail, too. Only one boxcar was full, hauling lumber. The other boxcars and tanker car were empty.
At this time, there are no reported injuries, no power disruptions, no private property damage and no hazmat or environmental impacts.
Canadian Railroad was able to move the tanker cars blocking Parkside Road. The roadway is now open.
"I have a really important birthday party I must be at. I have to figure out how to get out somehow," said Clark. "Everyone is stuck, and we’re all laughing about it. It could have been so much worse."
The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department and the Pewaukee Fire Department responded to the scene.
The derailment remains under investigation by Canadian Pacific Railroad.
