Town of Burlington possession of child porn; man arrested in Florida

The Brief

    • A Town of Burlington man was arrested in Florida, suspected of possessing child porn.
    • The investigation into Alexander Leroux began earlier in 2024, when officials received three cyber tips.
    • A search warrant was served on Leroux's Burlington residence on Friday, while he was on a work trip in Florida.

TOWN OF BURLINGTON, Wis. - A 26-year-old Town of Burlington man was arrested in Hillsborough County, Florida on Friday, Dec. 20 suspected of possessing child porn – also known as Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM). 

A news release from the Racine County Sheriff's Office notes that earlier in 2024, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children developed three cyber-tips for the possession of CSAM in the Town of Burlington. All three tips were produced on "Kik", which is a messaging and chat app. Those tips were referred to the Racine County  Sheriff’s Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) unit. Investigators were able to develop a suspect, Alexander Leroux. 

An ICAC investigator served a search warrant on Kik for Leroux’ account -- and the ICAC investigator found Leroux to be in possession of addition CSAM.

On Friday, Dec. 20, sheriff’s investigators, along with a Sheriff’s computer analyst and electronic storage detection K-9 Stella, served a search warrant on Leroux’ home on S. Browns Lake Drive. Leroux was not at the residence. But the search resulted in investigators locating numerous electronic devices that will be examined in the future. Investigators were also able to determine that Leroux was at a hotel in Florida on a work trip.

The investigators worked with prosecutors at the Racine County  District Attorney’s Office and obtained a fully extraditable arrest warrant for Leroux for ten counts of Possession of Child Pornography.

ICAC investigators contacted the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and provided them with the facts of their investigation and the arrest warrant.  The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s investigators quickly located Leroux and arrested him.  

The Florida investigators located additional electronic devices in Leroux’ possession that most likely contain CSAM – which will lead to more criminal charges in Florida.

The investigators transported Leroux to the Hillsborough County Jail where Leroux is awaiting extradition to Wisconsin to face prosecution.
