WEST ALLIS — West Allis state Representative Tony Staskunas announced Tuesday, April 17th he will not seek re-election.

The Democrat says he wants to seek new challenges, but did not elaborate on why he is leaving after 16 years in the state Assembly.

In a statement, Staskunas said: “I have given this decision considerable thought over the last several months.  I have greatly enjoyed my 16 years in the State Assembly.  Politics and legislating are fascinating and fulfilling work, but I believe that now is a good time for me to seek new challenges. I sincerely thank all of the residents of the 15th Assembly District.  Being elected to represent you and your friends and neighbors in the State Legislature is a great honor and is very humbling.  I am so grateful for the support that I have been given by my family, friends, neighbors and supporters, and I will always appreciate those who gave me the privilege of serving.”
