Five-year-old Jalyn Schaal struck, killed by truck in Beaver Dam

BEAVER DAM -- Beaver Dam Police officials have identified a five-year-old child struck and killed by a truck Sunday, April 22nd just before 6:00 p.m. as Jalyn Schaal.

It happened in the 400 block of 4th Street in Beaver Dam. The truck, driven by a 43-year-old Beaver Dam man, was heading eastbound on 4th Street, when Schaal stepped out from behind a legally parked car on 4th Street, and into traffic.

Police say it does not appear that speed or alcohol were factors in this incident. Police say the truck's driver stopped at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Schaal was transported to Beaver Dam Hospital and died later Sunday.

The investigation into this incident is ongoing, with assistance from the Dodge County Sheriff's Department. The driver was questioned and has been released by officials after giving his testimony about the incident. It does not appear charges will be filed.

Schaal attended South Beaver Dam Elementary School, where grief counselors were on hand Monday, April 23rd.
