Report: Chicago Bears fire Lovie Smith

CHICAGO -- NFL.com is reporting that the Chicago Bears have fired Lovie Smith as the team's head coach. This, after the Bears failed to make the playoffs.

The Bears hired Smith as head coach in 2004. His record as a head coach of the Bears was 83-66.

Smith's tenure included three NFL North titles and one NFC championship title in 2006. That same year, the Bears lost in the Super Bowl to the Indianapolis Colts, 29-17.

In a span of about 90 minutes before lunch on Monday, December 31st, coaches Andy Reid, Pat Shurmur, Romeo Crennel and Chan Gailey were also let go by their teams after losing seasons.
