Wave extend winning streak to 16 before heading out on road

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- The Milwaukee Wave was playing their last home game before heading out on a five game road trip. They hoped to continue their momentum by extending their winning streak to 16 games against Rochester.  The team did just that by defeating the Lancers 14-11.

Israel Seasy got the scoring going, as his goal gave the Wave an early 2-0 lead.  Giuliano Oliviero pushed the Wave ahead 4-0 with a goal on an assist from Marcio Leite.  Mauricio Salles of Rochester would respond to trim the deficit to 4-2.  It looked like the Wave would add another 2 point goal off a free kick from Luan Oliveira, but it was rescinded on a penalty by Fabinho, and the score remained at 4-2 after the first quarter.

The Wave came out firing at the beginning of the second quarter as JP Rodrigues and Nick Perera extended the Wave’s advantage to 8-2.  Salles would score once again, this time an unassisted goal to make it 8-4.  Near the end of the quarter Sesay scored his second of the game, putting the Wave on top 10-4 heading into the half.

The Lancers capitalized on a penalty by Milwaukee’s Tom Oatley when Pedrinho scored on the power play, making it 10-6.  It would become 10-9 after Rochester’s Paul Craig blasted a three point shot into the net.  No additional scoring occurred during the quarter, and the Wave clung to a 10-9 lead with one quarter remaining.

At beginning of the fourth quarter, Perera came through for the Wave, extending the team’s lead to 12-9 with a two point goal, his second of the game.  Rochester would only be able to score once more, thanks to MISL point’s leader Doug Miller, but the Wave would hold on to a 14-11 victory, keeping the teams winning streak intact.

The Wave’s road trip begins Sunday February, 17th at Missouri. They next play at home on Saturday March 2nd, at 6 p.m. against the Syracuse Silver Knights.
