Chicago man arrested after police pursuit in Mount Pleasant

MOUNT PLEASANT (WITI) -- Mount Pleasant Police say a 38-year-old Chicago man was arrested following a pursuit that took place after a traffic stop.

It happened on Friday, July 19th.

Mount Pleasant police say they stopped Bruce Adams' vehicle, at which time Adams gave them a false name, and upon attempting to identify the driver’s true identity, the driver then put the vehicle in drive and led officers on a pursuit.

Police say the pursuit was only approximately 1.9 miles lasting 2 minutes, which ended when the suspect left the roadway, abandoning the vehicle in a grass lawn in the 1100 Block of Stuart Road.

Officers located Adams in a residence in that area, where he was taken into custody.

Police say Adams is from Chicago, but stays in the Racine area.

He had two active bench warrants for his arrest from the Racine County Circuit Court for; Operating a Motor Vehicle while Intoxicated, a 2nd Offense, Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Prohibited Blood Alcohol Concentration, also 2nd Offense, as well as Operating a Motor Vehicle while Revoked.

Upon making contact with the listed owner of the vehicle, it was learned by police that Adams had no permission to have been operating the vehicle or have been in possession of it.

Adams was charged with the following: Fleeing and Eluding an Officer, Operating a vehicle without Owner’s Consent, Resisting and Obstructing an Officer, Operating a Motor Vehicle while Intoxicated, Operating a Motor Vehicle while Revoked, six(6) counts of Bail jumping, Operating a Motor Vehicle with Open Intoxicants, as well as two(2) other Traffic Citations.

Adams was transported to the Racine County Jail where he is being held on the above charges as well as his active warrants.
