Pursuit of armed robbery suspect causes backups near Zoo Int.

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials say the pursuit of an armed robbery suspect caused some traffic backups near the Zoo Interchange during rush hour on Wednesday, July 31st.

Sheriff's officials say around 5:00 p.m., the suspect vehicle, a 1996 white Dodge caravan sideswiped a semi on the freeway, after which the suspect got out of the vehicle and took off on foot.

The suspect is believed to have been responsible for a robbery at the Tri-City bank, located inside Pick 'n Save on W. Greenfield Avenue.

The suspect had apparently fled from officers in a subdivision near the bank.

Officials say five other motorists were clipped on the freeway -- but none were injured.

The suspect was apprehended quickly by law enforcement officials.

The Zoo Interchange was closed down for a brief period of time to get the damaged semi and the suspect's car out of the traffic lanes.
