Beau Biden in 'great shape' after procedure

(CNN) -- Beau Biden, who traveled to Texas this week for medical tests, successfully underwent a procedure Tuesday and is currently in "great shape," the White House said Wednesday.

The Delaware attorney general and son of Vice President Joe Biden was being evaluated at the University of Texas MD Anderson medical center, a world renowned cancer treatment hospital, after feeling weak and disoriented on a family vacation last week. Neither the vice president's office nor representatives for Beau Biden have specified what procedure he underwent, or have relayed a doctor's diagnosis.

The statement from the vice president and second lady Jill Biden, and released by the White House, said Beau Biden would be discharged on Thursday and go home to Delaware, where he'll follow up with local doctors.

A separate statement from the Delaware Department of Justice noted Attorney General Biden had discussed state matters with collegues Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, the vice president's office said three events on Joe Biden's Thursday calendar would be canceled so he could remain in Houston with his son.

Biden was scheduled to attend a fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee and an event at Salve Regina University -- both in Rhode Island -- as well as a fundraising event in Maine for New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan.

The vice president is scheduled to attend an event on Friday with the president in Scranton, Pennsylvania, where Biden was born and spent part of his childhood, but there has been no word on whether he will still make the trip.

The vice president and his wife, Jill, stayed overnight Tuesday in Houston with Beau Biden.

The vice president's office first said on Monday that Beau Biden was being evaluated at a hospital in Houston.

The incident that prompted the hospital visit happened August 14 while Biden was on vacation. He began to feel "weak and disoriented following a long drive to Indiana," the Delaware Department of Justice wrote in a statement.

Initially admitted to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Biden traveled the next morning to the Jefferson University Hospitals in Philadelphia to speak with his doctor.

The statement said Biden was discharged and spent the weekend at his home in Wilmington, Delaware.

In 2010, the younger Biden suffered what doctors said was a mild stroke. His speech and motor skills were not affected.

Biden, 44, was elected as Delaware's attorney general in 2006. He served in Iraq for one year as a captain with the Delaware Army National Guard. Biden acted as a prosecutor in the U.S. attorney's office in Philadelphia from 1997 to 2002.

He and his wife, Hallie, have two children.
