Officials advise staying cool and hydrated as heat wave continues

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Heat and humidity the big story in weather this week, with temperatures in the 90s and dewpoints in the 60s. As we move into the fall season, some are embracing this latest heat wave, as officials remind folks to be safe.

At Brown Deer Golf Course on Monday, August 26th, the sun was shining, the breeze was appreciated, and golfers were out swinging.

"I had an off day. It's warm, but it's not too bad," Tim O'Connor said.

"You come out and you play, and as long as you hydrate and drink water, you enjoy the Wisconsin summer," Jack Spicuzza said.

Meanwhile, across Milwaukee County, kids are enjoying the end of summer. The Milwaukee County Parks Department reopened a splash pad and two wading pools that would typically be closed.

Jaimmie Stugard decided to take her children on a little outing to cool off on Monday.

While the kids were having fun Monday, Bell Ambulance is gearing up.

"You can deal with it, you can get through it, as long as you stay cool and you stay hydrated," Chris Anderson with Bell Ambulance said.

With the heat comes a 30% increase in calls -- 30 to 50 more each day. The company is adding three to seven ambulances this week.

"It`s going to be hot, but we`ll be okay. We have experience from things we`ve learned in the past," Anderson said.
