North Fond du Lac man arrested following incident with axe

NORTH FOND DU LAC (WITI) -- A 23-year-old North Fond du Lac man is facing charges of second-degree recklessly endangering safety, resisting an officer and disorderly conduct following a weapons incident Sunday, September 29th.

According to officials, the North Fond du Lac Police Department was dispatched to the area of Audry Court and Polk Street in the Village of North Fond du Lac around 11:39 a.m. for a report of a suspicious male carrying an axe.

The called reported that a man was carrying an axe and saying that someone inside an apartment complex was killing people.

When police arrived on the scene they located a man carrying a tactical tomahawk axe.

When police commanded the man to drop the axe, he refused, stating someone was trying to kill him. The man eventually lowered his axe, and began running.

Police say the man was taken into custody following a short foot chase.

The 23-year-old man told police that tenants of an upstairs apartment in his complex had shot and killed a boy and girl in his apartment, and were now after him.

Police say they searched the man's apartment and found no one shot inside.

Officers also made contact with the upstairs tenants, who told police they had never had any confrontations with the man. They also allowed police to search their apartment, and officers again did not located anyone injured of killed.

The man was taken to the Fond du Lac County Health Care Center where he was held on an Emergency Detention. When released, he will be referred to the District Attorney's Office for multiple charges -- including second-degree reckless endangering safety, resisting/obstruction an officer and disorderly conduct.
