Snap-On sponsors four Honor Flights through next spring

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Despite the continuing government shut down, a group of veterans is taking the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. on Friday, October 4th. The flight is being sponsored by Snap-On Tools.

"Snap-On is actually sponsoring Honor Flights so that the Snap-On retirees and active associates who served in Vietnam, Korea and World War II can go to Washington to visit their memorials," said Alicia Smales, Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer of Snap-On, Inc.

After partnering with the Honor Flight, Snap-On is covering all associated costs of the trip.

Smales says the government shut down will not keep these veterans away.

"We've been keeping in close contact with the Honor Flight and they assure us that the memorials will be accessible to the veterans," said Smales.

Veterans say they expect to be emotional as they recall the experiences serving their country, and the people who served alongside them.

"A lot of these folks served in wartime and they sacrificed so much -- physically, emotionally and economically -- so it brings tears to your eyes to actually see these folks get the recognition that they deserve," said Smales.

The Honor Flight will return to Milwaukee on Sunday. Snap-On is sponsoring three more Honor Flights scheduled through next spring.
