Report issued on contractor killed in garage collapse

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office has released its report on the death of 38-year-old Sean Held, a contractor from Slinger, who was killed after a garage collapsed on him in Fox Point Wednesday morning, October 30th.

The garage was part of a residence near Santa Monica Blvd. and N. Bell Rd. in Fox Point. It was in the process of being rehabilitated when it collapsed.

According to the Medical Examiner's report, the cause of death is "traumatic asphyxia and blunt force injuries of the pelvis." The manner was ruled accidental.

Investigators have not said what caused the garage to collapse. However, according the Medical Examiner's report, the wind braces on the garage had been removed earlier that morning.

According to the report, the wind braces had to be removed because the garage was leaning. The contractors were planning to straighten the garage and put on new braces.

A section of Santa Monica Blvd. in front of the house where the collapse happened was shut down for about three hours as investigators remained on the scene. Just after noon on Wednesday, the scene was cleared and the street was reopened.

The owner of the house applied for a permit to do work on the garage on August 17th with the Village of Fox Point. The permit was issued on August 19th. MDM Builders, LLC out of Slinger was listed as the contractor. MDM’s owner, Mike Myers told FOX6 News that Held was subcontracted to do the work.
