Officials encourage motorists to prepare for winter weather

MILWAUKEE (WITI) — The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather WARNING for the northern counties in the FOX6 viewing area beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, January 14th and running until 6 a.m. Wednesday, January 15th.

The National Weather Service has also issued a winter weather ADVISORY for the southern half of the FOX6 viewing area — also from 9 a.m. until midnight on Tuesday.

Due to the winter storm, officials are encouraging drivers to prepare for dealing with wintry conditions on the roads.

Travel may be difficult on secondary and untreated roads.

Be ready for the storm. Here are a few simple things you can do:

  • Check the roads before you travel. Call 511 or go to  for the latest road conditions across Wisconsin.
  • Limit travel and get supplies for your home. . Make sure your home emergency kit is stocked with food that can be stored and eaten without electricity. Also, make sure you have extra water, flashlights with extra batteries and medications. For a complete list of kit items go to our website:
  • Have an emergency winter weather survival kit in your vehicle. Your kit should include water, snack food such as energy bars or raisins, first aid kit and booster cables.
