Javier Garcia goes to trial for the murder of Lisa Mezera

KENOSHA CO. (WITI) -- The trial of Javier Garcia began in a Kenosha County Courtroom on Tuesday, February 18th. Garcia is charged with first-degree intentional homicide for allegedly killing 26-year-old Lisa Mezera.

Mezera’s body was found in a cemetery in the Town of Somers on August 19, 2012. She was left abandoned, hit on the head and choked to death. Detectives say Garcia knew Mezera and was the last person to see her alive.

Sergeant Bill Beth with the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department says DNA evidence reassured investigators that Garcia is the primary suspect.

If convicted, Garcia could spend the rest of his life in prison.
