DEVELOPING: UW-Milwaukee's Police Chief placed on administrative leave

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- FOX6 News has learned UW-Milwaukee's Police Chief Michael Marzion has been placed on administrative leave.

An independent investigator was hired to look into allegations of sexual harassment against a student.

Apparently, they exchanged explicit messages with one another online.

While he ruled the chief did not technically harass the woman, the investigator was troubled by the fact that the chief had no real explanation for his behavior.

Marzion will remain on leave until the provost issues a final decision.

Assistant Chief Greg Habeck will serve as Interim Police Chief.

An official statement from UW-Milwaukee reads as follows:

"UW-Milwaukee Police Chief Michael Marzion was placed on administrative leave on June 16 following receipt of a report by an outside independent investigator hired by the university to review a complaint filed against Marzion under UWM’s Discriminatory Conduct Policy. Marzion will remain on leave until Provost Johannes Britz issues a final decision under the policy.

UWM is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all students, faculty and staff. We are confident that our police force, under the interim direction of Assistant Chief Greg Habeck, will provide outstanding service to students and members of our campus community."
