"It's glued to my hip!" Folks loving the new, FREE DNR State Parks & Forests Pocket Ranger App

DOUSMAN (WITI) -- A beautiful day Saturday, August 9th to enjoy some of Wisconsin's State Parks and recreational trails -- but what do you do once you're there? Wisconsin DNR leaders can now say: There's an app for that!

At the Ottawa Lake Recreation Area in Dousman, Wisconsin DNR Park Ranger Anne Korman was spreading the word Saturday about the DNR's new mobile app.

"It's a quick install. It only took my phone 45 seconds to download," Korman said.

The app is called: The Official Wisconsin State Parks and Forests Pocket Ranger App -- and it's FREE to download for Apple and Android devices.

"They'll be able to use this app to find trails, picnic areas, camp sites - anything that we have available on the property for people to use, you'll be able to find out information right from your device," Korman said.

The app has a number of cool features, including the ability to locate parks by zip code, name, or even within a desired distance from wherever you are in the state.

For folks like Ed Rader, campsites and beaches are just a click away.

"The nice thing is if we're looking for something to do - the app will help us find anything in the area. It's glued to my hip!," Rader said.

The DNR says it's a way to not only reach out to the tech savvy, but also -- a way to cut back on printing costly paper maps and brochures.

So on a beautiful Saturday morning, Korman marched on.

"We're just like any other businesses. We're out there spreading the word," Korman said.

It's just another way to explore and enjoy state parks and forests -- no matter where you are.
