OCONOMOWOC (WITI) -- Authorities are investigating a homicide in Oconomowoc -- a crime that hasn't happened in the city in at least six years.

Oconomowoc police were called out to a home on Elm Street on Sunday evening, May 17th, shortly before 7:00 p.m.

Police say 50-year-old Stanley Van Wagner was found dead in the basement of his home. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Officials say Van Wagner's wife found her husband's body and contacted a neighbor, who then notified police.

When police arrived on scene they located two shell casings and three bullets. Police say Van Wagner was shot three times with a .380 caliber handgun. Police Chief David Beguhn says that is consistent with what Van Wagner owned.

Officials tell FOX6 News they believe Van Wagner was shot in one room of the residence and then moved to the basement.

“We do believe that it was probably somebody known to Mr. Van Wagner. We don’t believe the public is in any danger at this point. He was last seen by family, is our initial reports, on Friday evening and they were out in the area throughout the weekend and then he was found on Sunday, so that's why we are going back and trying to backtrack and find out movements and who had contact with him throughout the weekend," said Oconomowoc Police Chief David Beguhn.

A neighbor who lives across the street from the home says he talked with Van Wagner recently.

"I talked to him before the weekend about his car. That black one is his car. He was proud of it -- polishing and waxing it," the neighbor said.

The state's Crime Scene Response Team has been requested to assist with evidence collection in this case.

DONNY, you are the dolt. Legal dictionary defines slander as “A false and malicious statement or report about someone.” And, there is also libel……….which is putting that statement in print.

  • listen up

Why did the wife call on a neighbor to call 911, she takes the time to do that instead of calling them herself, somethings fishy, here …………………

    • Mr. Bob

So, the plot thickens… If there were no signs of forced entry to the home and if the victim was shot with one of his own weapons, and if the shot was fired from close range, and if the wife upon discovering her husband’s dead body in the basement, went to the neighbor’s house rather than calling police…the murderer could have been just about anybody who knew the guy…..

Exactly!!!that along with her fb posts….and the fact that The body was moved, from one room down to the basement, you would think that if it were a random killing, or somebody else that he knew, that they would not want to stick around and hide the body in the basement, what sense would that make? But the big thing is, he was shot with his own gun. You could bet that they’re looking at her with a fine tooth comb, right now they have confiscated her cell phone and everything else, I can bet there will be an arrest within one week

With all that being said, he was a really nice guy, my son had gone to school with his youngest son as well, and it’s a shame that that had to have happened to such a great guy

Just because YOU have known someone their whole life, doesn’t mean anything. I’ve known Stan, and I feel SHE did it. And believe it or not, so do a lot of their friends But I can’t blame you for being upset at the feelings others may have. Maybe you shouldn’t scroll comment sections just to avoid this.

Sabrina, it could just as easily been Col. Michael Mustard, the militant and athletic colonel, Mrs. Blanche White, the intrusive and kindly maid, or perhaps Prof. Peter Plum, the uptight and intelligent professor?? We just don’t have enough “CLUES” at this point. We do know the killer did not use a Candlestick, Poison, Rope, Gloves, Horseshoe, Knife or a Lead Pipe. But what room did the murder take place in????

Mr. Bob, you sound like a keyboard gangster. Does poking fun at people’s misfortune, behind the safety of your computer, make you feel better about yourself? I hope you never have to experience what this family is reading after their horrible loss. People who know this family have been blessed to be a part of their lives. They truly are a dying breed in this world, giving anything to anyone at any expense to them. Phenomenal people and Mr. Van Wagner will truly be missed.

People are entitled to their thoughts. Sorry if they don’t share your views. I personally think the wife did it. I think her phony fb posts about “maybe I’ll se my husband tomorrow” etc were just to set the stage for herself. I’m sorry but if my husbands cars were both at home n I haven’t seen him since Friday….I would be looking all over my house, not ” having an awesome day planting flowers, cooking dinner etc”. Come on. just because you may know them open up your eyes.

FYI, The map with this story shows the wrong Elm street. The house shown in the picture is just south of the tracks in the middle of town.

I have wondered the same thing. No updates. No one asking for tips. His wife Amy NEVER post s anything on her fb about wondering who could’ve done this to her husband. Never asks for tips etc. I think the cops are just being super quiet because they are trying to piece this together and then go in for the arrest. Have to have all the ducks in a row. I mean if they didn’t have a clue…..there would be reward money leading to the arrest etc. there’s nothibg. Because they know who did it. It’s jait a matter of time.

Wow so who needs the police to figure things out when we’ve got a bunch of CSI DUMBASSZ to solve the crime. I feel so much better… UMMMM NO

    • Minitoads
