Fatal wreck: One dead following single-vehicle accident on I-94 near 35th Street

MILWAUKEE -- A 43-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle traffic accident Monday night, August 17th on I-94.

Deputies responded to the scene after receiving a call about a car in the bushes off I-94 eastbound at the 35th Street off-ramp around 10 p.m.

Two witnesses stopped to render aid, and said the man had a pulse, but was not breathing.  One of the witnesses ran to the street to flag down two MPD bike patrol officers, who began CPR until Milwaukee Fire and Milwaukee Med units arrived.

The 43-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:00 p.m. His identity is being withheld pending notification of relatives.

According to the witnesses driving behind the vehicle, he was driving about 30 m.p.h. on the ramp and slowed to 10 m.p.h., drifting off to the right into the brush off the roadway, with the car slowly coming to a stop at a chain link fence.

Sheriff’s detectives are investigating, and the Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy.
