Woman shares her experience with cashier at Walmart store; spreads powerful message

COLORADO — A Colorado woman is spreading a message she hopes will resonate with everyone who watches her video.

Paige Yore made a trip to Walmart on Friday, December 4th. When she went to check out, the cashier was having a really hard time.

“He can’t ring anything up. He can’t remember the codes. He’s taking deep breaths,” Yore recalled.

She realized something probably happened to the cashier to make him act that way.

Unfortunately, the woman in front of Yore wasn’t so sympathetic.

“You suck at customer service! I don’t know why you ever -- I don’t know how you ever got hired here,” Yore recalled the woman saying.

In an effort to casually get the woman out of the store, Yore helped her load her groceries.

Then, the woman's card was declined.

“Then she really lays into this kid -- like it’s his fault. He can’t run the computer, and ‘there’s money in my account. I just transferred it in -- and goes off on this kid,” Yore said.

Yore asked the woman to step aside because the cashier was obviously having a bad day.

That was when the boy broke down.

“He comes around the bagging area and he just hugs me. I’m weirded out and I hug him back and he’s sobbing," Yore said.

Yore says she continued to console him, and he stopped and said…

"'Ma’am, my mom just committed suicide this morning -- and I have to work because I have to pay our rent, and I have to pay our bills. And I don’t even have a mom anymore. And this lady is just yelling at me,'" Yore said.

The woman, in front of everyone, was completely humiliated for the way she had treated the boy as he continued to cry.

Yore says she gave him all the money she had in her wallet as the tears continued to stream down his face.

She says this is an example of the fact that you never really know what's going on in someone else's life.

“That really just shows me that no matter what… don’t jump down their throat because they are fighting a battle that none of us know about. We just have to be thankful to be alive, and treat people like you want to be treated. Don’t lay into somebody like that because you never know what’s going on in their life," Yore said.

Video posted to Facebook by Yore regarding her experience at Walmart on Friday has been viewed more than 14 million times.
