NEW YORK — Target is taking a stand on the debate around what type of bathrooms transgenders can use.

In a statement posted on its company website Tuesday, April 19th, the discounter, based in Minneapolis, said transgender employees and customers can use the restroom or fitting room facility that “corresponds with their gender identity.”

The statement comes as a national debate is heating up over whether to restrict transgender people from using public bathrooms that only match their gender at birth. North Carolina is facing backlash for its recent ban on local anti-discrimination ordinances. And other states are considering legislation similar to that adopted by North Carolina.

Target Corp. says it regularly assesses issues and considers many factors that would impact business, customers and workers.

Great, now I have to stand guard at the restroom / fitting room if my daughter needs to use them. What a joke – and they actually think they are being ‘inclusive’ and ‘forward thinking’ with this policy. I’d rather they just donate money for mental health therapy.

Transgender people have been doing this even before stores and people made it ‘ok’..you never noticed before, it wasn’t an issue then and shouldn’t be now.

Transgenders wouldn’t be perverts. HOWEVER you are going to have perverts pretending to be transgender to get a good gander at things they should not. AND you cannot raise the ? are you or aren’t you because that would be invasion of privacy or profiling or some such thing. I see potential peeking, assaults and lawsuits coming. From trans being beaten up for no reason to the assault of kids/teens/women by perverts.

Thankful that I haven’t lived near a Target for several years. Someone gave me a gift card. I gave it away. If you don’t know how far the nearest Target is, don’t send me a gift card for one. Now this… I guess I’m not worried about restrooms and dressing rooms like I would be the locker rooms in a school. As much as I dislike Target and won’t walk into one for their veteran affairs policy, this doesn’t do anything for men… However, when we start telling schools that you have to let kids use the locker room of their choice during the same time that the other rest of the kids are using it, that’s when I get nervous, administrators begin resigning and we wonder why courts get busy with salivating lawyers.

Can someone please explain to me why a major American corporation is pandering to .002% of the population…at the risk of pissing all the rest of us off?? I certainly don’t plan on shopping there anymore as I wouldn’t want my children using their restrooms.
