MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police say they're looking for a student who was seen on video punching a school security guard. It happened on Wednesday, April 27th at Vincent High School on Milwaukee's northwest side.video2

Students outside the school on Thursday expressed disappointment at the sight of another student slugging a security officer, and then pummeling him.

"This morning when I came to school, they was talking about it and I actually know the person who did it, and I heard his name and I'm like, 'is it a video?' And I got shown the video and when I seen it I said, 'that's disrespectful.' I'm cool with him -- but he gets no respect for doing something like that to a person like that. He's older. You can't do that," said Oscar Rash, Vincent High School

Police say officers were sent to the school around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday for a call regarding trouble with a juvenile. Police determined a 17-year-old student struck a 51-year-old employee of the school.

"One of my classmates recorded it and they kind of told me the rundown of what happened," said Taron Edmond, Vincent High School senior.

A Milwaukee Public Schools source told FOX6 News the officer had confronted the student for talking on his cell phone. The students we spoke with said the security guard is well-liked.video3

"He was cool. He just stood in the corner, made sure you got to class. He made sure we did what we was supposed to do. It wasn't like he was a security guard who started stuff with everybody," said Rash.

"You respect your elders. Nobody had any problems with him," said Edmond.

Even those who said they like the student involved too said there's no excuse for what the video shows he did.

"He's too old to be thinking childish like that, to be swinging on someone that's his elder," said Rash.

MPS officials said the safety officer was treated for minor injuries.

Police are currently seeking the 17-year-old student.

Hate crime?! The security guard in the video is black you uninformed racist fool! He did a exclusive interview on this on tmj4 earlier today. Uninformed mofos.

Right. If your in a position of authority, just have to take it. If the security guard did anything. Like the teachers aide, MPS would fire him and you get charged. Isnt the system grand!!

  • head hunter

these little punks know they can get away with it , probably would stop if the elders could fight back and whoop their little asses!!!!

Why the heck is MPS continuing to allow.cell phones in school? Most of thr violence is perpetrated BECAUSE someone is filming. Kids think it’s hilarious to get filmed doing terrible things, then have someone post it and make it go viral. No more cell phones in school! It is completely unnecessary. If someone needs to get in touch with a kid, they can call the school’s landline.

They also use them to do cyber bullying (right in class @ times) and to text out to their peers who are NOT in school to come in for a big fight, etc.

Collect cell phones at the beginning of the day, return them at the end. Any seen during the day get confiscated and returned to the Parent when they come to the school to discuss the issue. We are forced to pay taxes to educate these kids and should have some say in what goes on in the schools. There is no educating going on when they are on their phones and/or disrupting class. It isn’t fair to the students who are there to learn. It is bad enough that the teachers have to take the verbal abuse dished out and have no recourse; they can’t even defend themselves from physical abuse when it happens. Even the security guards aren’t able to defend themselves from being knocked out. They may as well be decorations. Thugs are running the schools and beginning to run the country. Maybe it is time for civil disobedience of our own. Entire cities and counties refusing to pay property taxes until we have more voice in how those dollars are spent. but I dream.

I know this security guard and I have known him for quite some time and he is indeed very well liked by other staff members as well as the students. I used to work at Vincent with him and he is not one to cause problems. This display shows how disrespectful our young people are becoming…not all of them, but a great number. MPS needs to tighten up on the discipline. If the parents want to deal with this mess in their homes, they should keep their children with them. These teachers and the support staff should not have to deal with this foolishness.
