Police: Officer dragged by vehicle stolen from dealership in Sturtevant, 4 teens in custody



MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police say an officer was injured when that officer was dragged by a vehicle stolen from a dealership in Sturtevant early Wednesday morning, July 13th.

According to police, around 6:15 p.m., officers observed the stolen vehicle traveling near Lisbon and Burleigh.

When they attempted to stop the vehicle, the four occupants fled the vehicle while it was still moving.

Officers pursued the two 17-year-old boys and two females, ages 15 and 16 -- and with the help of neighbors, all four were taken into custody.

Police say when the suspects fled the stolen car, they left it in drive -- and as the car began to roll in reverse, an officer attempted to stop the vehicle before it could injure citizens in the neighborhood or cause additional property damage.

While doing so, he lost his balance and was dragged by the vehicle.

The vehicle came to rest when it struck a light pole.

The 51-year-old officer received several injuries from the incident. He was taken to a hospital and was treated and released. Police said on Thursday, July 14th he is recovering at home.

The vehicle was stolen from a dealership in Sturtevant -- Racine Hyundai.

Police on Wednesday evening, said a 16-year-old boy is in custody in connection with the Sturtevant burglary.

Police said a 2017 Hyundai Elantra, one of the two vehicles stolen from the dealership was recovered near 64th and Keefe in Milwaukee when that 16-year-old was arrested.
