State Supreme Court candidates to speak at Democratic convention

MADISON — Two liberal candidates for the Wisconsin Supreme Court will speak at the state Democratic convention this weekend.

Jill Karofsky and Ed Fallone are looking to unseat conservative Justice Dan Kelly. Judicial candidates are officially nonpartisan but Republicans back Kelly and Democrats support Karofsky and Fallone. Both Karofsky and Fallone are scheduled to speak Saturday at the Democratic convention in Milwaukee.

Justice-elect Brian Hagedorn turned heads when he appeared at the state GOP convention earlier in May and thanked attendees for electing him.

Fallone notes liberal Supreme Court candidates Rebecca Dallet and Tim Burns appeared at the 2018 Democratic convention. He intends to make a "nonpartisan appeal" to voters Saturday.

Karofsky consultant Sachin Chheda also pointed to Dallet and Burns' appearances as precedent. He says Karofsky will stress judicial independence Saturday.
