Woman struck by vehicle in West Allis alley lost 3-year-old daughter in fire, adult daughter at age 23

WEST ALLIS -- West Allis police on Monday, Oct. 14 identified the woman who was struck by a vehicle in an alley near 58th Street and Lincoln Avenue around 12:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, and later died from her injuries as 51-year-old Jean Haas. FOX6 News learned this wasn't the first time tragedy has impacted this family.

Officials said Haas had been walking in the alley when she fell. She was unconscious and remained lying in the alley. As she began to wake up and try to stand, a vehicle struck her. The driver of that vehicle did not immediately stop and render aid or call 911. That driver, a 53-year-old West Allis man, was later located and arrested for hit-and-run, causing death.

Neighbors said the man's driveway shares the alley where Haas died.

Neighbors, friends, and relatives lit candles and hung up photos and balloons on Sunday night in Haas' memory. One neighbor's surveillance cameras captured the moments -- too graphic for television. Haas died feet from her driveway.

Her life, filled with tragedy, was tragically cut short. FOX6 News interviewed Haas in 2015, when she lost her 3-year-old daughter Faith in a house fire.

"It's like, not real to me, really," said Haas at the time. "I don't want to believe it. It's the worst pain I ever had. I had three miscarriages before her, so she was like, really a blessing, like, a little angel."

Over the summer, friends said she lost her 23-year-old daughter.

As loved ones gathered for the third time in less than five years, they described Haas as a devoted mother and grandmother, a sweetheart, and an all-round good person.

The case was sent to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office for review, with a charging decision pending Monday.
