109 miles-per-hour: Police cite two men for racing on the highway in Mount Pleasant
MOUNT PLEASANT -- Mount Pleasant police say two people were arrested for racing on the highway early on Sunday, November 29th.
Police say it was shortly before 7:00 a.m. when an officer headed southbound on State Highway 31/Green Bay Road observed two vehicles racing towards him northbound on Highway 31 -- near Braun Road.
The vehicles were traveling at 109 miles-per-hour, according to police. The posted speed limit in the area is 55 miles-per-hour.
The officer activated his lights and sirens, and the first vehicle, a Toyota Avalon, slowed down -- stopping for the officer.
The second vehicle, a Cadillac Deville, continued traveling -- turning eastbound on State Highway 11.
A second officer stopped the Cadillac a short distance away.
The driver of the Avalon -- a 49-year-old Racine man, was cited for racing on the highway, speed in excess of fixed limits (45+ miles-per-hour) and operating with no insurance.
The driver of the Deville, a 38-year-old Racine man, was cited for racing on the highway, and speed in excess of fixed limits (45+ miles-per-hour).
Both of the men were released from custody.
