According to authorities, the ceiling collapse was caused by a water leak above the level of the drywall in the lower unit. The apartment where the ceiling collapse occurred, and the unit above were deemed uninhabitable by a representative from the city's inspection bureau due to construction issues.
The construction issues in the house will be address by the city of Kenosha and a representative from the apartment building's ownership.
As a result of the ceiling collapse, eleven people are being displaced between the unit where it collapsed and the unit above it. Six people lived in the lower unit, while five people in the upper.
They are all being assisted by the Red Cross.
