MUSKEGO (WITI) -- Muskego police say 18-year-old Kayla Corona was killed in a single vehicle crash shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday, January 19th.
A new utility pole was erected Saturday morning on Henneberry Drive after a vehicle crashed into the previous one.
“We heard a loud bang and then my son and his buddies ran out and saw it. She was sitting up in the car,” Les Gumieny who rushed outside to help said.
Gumieny and his son found the driver Corona in a daze.
Gumieny’s family called for help. Meanwhile, he tried to keep Corona alert.
“She was sitting up in the car and then she slid off the seat. I had my hand underneath her head. She was moaning and groaning, not really responding to anything I was saying to her," Guminey said.
Muskego police said Corona was trapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle. She was taken to Froedtert Hospital where she died as a result of her injuries.
“The front end was damaged pretty severely but I didn’t think it was quite that bad,” Gumieny said.
Corona's friends, trying to piece together what happened, sobbed when they drove by to visit the wreck scene.
As Gumieny looked at car parts strewn across his lawn, he could only help by sympathize for the victim’s loved ones.
"It’s just unfortunate. I’ll keep her family in our prayers," Guminey said.
Authorities believe alcohol was a factor in this crash.
Corona was a 2012 graduate of Muskego High School.
