19-year-old dead after driver in stolen vehicle crashes; suspect in custody

MILWAUKEE -- A 19-year-old is dead and another person suffered serious injuries following a police pursuit and crash involving a stolen vehicle. It happened early Thursday morning, Aug. 1 on Milwaukee's north side.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as 19-year-old Lequon McCoy.

The suspect's vehicle collided with another car, that was not involved the chase, near 12th and Locust.
Neighbors like Quntella Moore heard the incident before seeing the aftermath.

"All I heard was a big crash... go boom," said Moore. "Come outside my house. There's a body outside my house."
Officials say 19-year-old McCoy was killed after the suspect's vehicle collided with his near the intersection.
"I've never seen anything like that before," Moore said.
The lengthy chase began miles away, near 64th and West Congress. Officers were pursuing a reckless, stolen car which disregarded multiple traffic signs.
"Stealing cars and stuff, they need to stop that," said Moore. "An innocent person just lost their life for some stuff he had nothing to do with."
The suspect survived. Officers and MFD attempted life-saving measures on McCoy, however, he died at the scene.

"I have never seen anyone do CPR as long as they were doing on that man. Trying to bring him back," said Moore.
Police are now investigating the deadly chase and crash as a family mourns a lost loved one.

"Now a parent is hurt because her son is gone over some stuff he had nothing to do with. That is hurtful," said Moore.
The driver of the stolen vehicle is a 19-year-old Milwaukee man who suffered a serious injury. He was taken to a local hospital and is in custody.
