2 serious crashes in 2 weeks at Dodge Co. intersection; latest left 8-year-old critically injured
DODGE COUNTY -- An 8-year-old child is in critical condition after a crash involving two vehicles in Theresa on Sunday afternoon, December 17th.
It happened around 3:00 p.m. at the intersection of State Highway 28/67/175 and State Highway 28 east in the Township of Theresa, about 1 mile north of the Village of Theresa.
According to sheriff's officials, a passenger car was westbound on State Highway 28 and entered the intersection in front of a northbound passenger car on State Highway 28/67/175. East and westbound traffic at that intersection is controlled by stop signs and north and southbound traffic is not controlled.
The driver of the westbound car, a 35-year-old Reeseville man, was taken by ambulance to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The 8-year-old passenger was taken to a children’s hospital with serious, possibly life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the northbound car, a 60-year-old Theresa woman, was taken by ambulance to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. There were no passengers in her car.
The crash remains under investigation, but failing to yield right of way from a stop sign and lack of restraint use are initial factors in the occurrence of and seriousness of the crash.
Sheriff's officials noted this was the second serious injury crash at the same intersection within two weeks.
