The Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon returned on Sunday, featuring a fresh, new course for participants to enjoy.

The Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon returned on Sunday, Oct. 1, featuring a fresh, new course for participants to enjoy.

"That bridge did not defeat us," said Nicole Shaver. "We defeated the bridge."

In April, Abigail Berlyn and Shaver decided to run their first half marathon together.

"We just decided now was the time," said Berlyn.

"We both hit personal records; nothing better than running with thousands of people to run your best," said Shaver.

Runners came in from 46 states and nine countries.

Weather prefect for the marathon

The marathon offers scenic views of Milwaukee's skyline and natural beauty.

"Bringing people from all over the world into Milwaukee, they got to witness the things that we take for granted," said Scott Stauske, Race Director of the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon. "The park system, the friendly attitude, and the beautiful lake. We have a lot to be Thankful for and appreciate. We want to showcase that and share it with the other world."

After the missing races in 2021 and 2022, organizers said they were happy to host Wisconsin's largest marathon.

"I think it's important for us to recognize this has been a labor of love. We've been wanting to do this for quite some time," said Stauske. "Taking two years to get all the pieces of the puzzle together."

From the 5K, half marathon and marathon runners crossing the finish line left the course with advice for people on the sideline.

"Listen, it's your race! Your pace, come out and do it. You're only competing against yourself," said Deborah Moore.

This is the largest race they've ever seen, with 5000 people running. Doubling the size that they've ever had before.
