3 hurt in shooting outside Walmart on E. Capitol Drive: 'It's really a tragedy'

MILWAUKEE -- Three people were hurt in a shooting outside the Walmart on E. Capitol Drive near Holton Street Sunday afternoon, May 24.

Police said a 20-year-old man, a 29-year-old woman and an 18-year-old man were shot around 1:30 p.m. The 18-year-old man was seriously wounded. Police said Monday all three were in stable condition at the hospital.

The triple shooting prompted the closure of the store -- as police taped off a large section of the parking lot to investigate.

"I was just on my way to pick up some items here," said Willie Perry, Walmart customer. "I get over here and see all the police cars. I see they've got the yellow tape out, and when I roll up here, I find out there was a shooting that's taken place."

Perry said he almost ran the errand earlier in the day -- but something stopped him.

"I usually shop here on a regular basis, very close to our place of worship," said Perry. "It just wasn't meant for me to come over until just right now."

"It's really a tragedy here," said Perry. "My prayers go out to those three victims and their families -- that they be blessed with patience, and this is something that would be avoided in the future."

Police said Monday they're investigating the circumstances leading up to the shooting, and no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Milwaukee police at 414-935-7360 or Crime Stoppers at 414-224-TIPS.

Meanwhile, a Walmart spokeswoman issued this statement to FOX6 News:

“While no retailer is immune to crime, we are appalled by today’s incident. We are working with law enforcement and hope for a speedy recovery for the victims.”
