47-year-old woman shot during attempted carjacking in Bay View: "I was in shock"



MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating after a 47-year-old woman was shot during an attempted carjacking near S. Quincy and E. Russell Avenue in Bay View.



It happened around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 23rd.

Police say as the victim was exiting her vehicle, she was approached by an unknown subject who demanded her vehicle at gunpoint.

As the woman attempted to run away, the subject fired one round which struck the victim. The subject then entered a waiting vehicle and fled without taking the victim's car.

The woman was taken to a hospital where she was treated for her injury -- and later released.



Police say their investigation into this incident and the identification of possible suspects is ongoing.

Meanwhile, those who live in the area told FOX6 News everyone has been praying for the victim.

"Our neighbor's been shot!  I was in shock myself. I didn`t know what to say.  Police response was wonderful.  Police were coming from all directions," one neighbor said.

The victim's family offered no comment on Sunday afternoon.
