48-year-old Roy Jones charged in alleged attack on common law wife

RACINE (WITI) -- 48-year-old Roy Jones of Racine has been charged in connection with an alleged attack on his common law wife.

Jones faces three charges, including:

Officials responded to a residence in the 5300 block of Four Mile Road in the Village of Caledonia on November 3rd for a report of an assault in progress.

While en route, officers were advised that Jones may be hiding in a garage somewhere on the property.

A criminal complaint in the case says Jones was located inside the garage, where he was reportedly yelling profanities. Officials at the scene say Jones appeared highly intoxicated and continued yelling profanities after he was greeted by police.

The complaint says that while officers attempted to take Jones into custody, he was uncooperative.

When officials entered the home, they observed a glass stove top broken in the kitchen, and the living room in disarray with a large mirror lying on the ground destroyed, and several picture frames ripped off the wall and destroyed, according to the complaint.

The complaint says that in the bedroom, officials noticed a light fixture hanging by electrical wires and broken glass on the floor.

Officials also observed a female who appeared to be in pain -- complaining about pain to her leg, eyes and arms. Officials observed swelling to both of her eyes and a bruise on her leg, according to the complaint.

The complaint says the woman told officials Jones had returned to the residence drunk that evening and immediately started arguing with the woman about their current financial situation -- indicating that the two are on SSI disability and Jones has been either gambling his money away or spending it on alcohol.

The woman told officials she and Jones are "common law spouses," and have been living together for over 10 years.

The woman told officials after the argument, Jones went out to the garage, which she says is where he goes to drink -- according to the criminal complaint.

The complaint indicates Jones later returned to the home, and according to the woman, "flipped out" when she told him they needed to get food for the house.

The complaint says the woman told officials Jones began breaking things in the apartment and when the woman and her daughter threatened to call police, he took the phone away.

The complaint says before they were able to call police, Jones entered the apartment and appeared "really drunk" -- and that's when the woman says Jones began throwing items at her, pushing her and striking her with his arms and hands, according to the complaint.

Through an investigation, officials discovered the woman is disabled, with almost complete paralysis of her left arm. She also indicated having nerve damage to her neck -- and has limited mobility, getting around with the assistance of a walker. She is also reportedly on oxygen -- according to the criminal complaint.

The complaint indicates Jones told officials he will kill himself when he gets out of jail.
