49-year-old man beaten to death near 5th and Keefe

MILWAUKEE (WITI) -- Milwaukee police are investigating a homicide that occurred on Sunday, March 31st near 5th and Keefe.

This incident reportedly happened around 2:00 Sunday afternoon.

The Medical Examiner was called to the scene, for a 49-year-old man who, according to police, appeared to be battered and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses at the scene told FOX6 News they saw the man being beaten to death with a baseball bat.

"I heard a commotion. When I looked I saw two men approaching another man and they were just beating on him. I mostly seen them hitting him in the head. And then my cousin called 911 and they worked on him for hours and then he was just pronounced dead," one witness said.

Victor Boyd heard the sedan with black tinted windows screech its tires as the two men hopped in and fled the scene. Boyd rushed outside to find someone he knew lying, beaten and bloody on the ground.

"You didn't mess with nobody minding his own business. He just like to drink his beer and wave at a few neighbors. He was just a nice person," Boyd said.

Police say the investigation is ongoing. No further details have been released at this time.

No one is in custody in connection with this incident.
