52-year-old Racine man arrested for DUI, accused of driving his Jaguar into deputy's squad

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials say a 52-year-old Racine man was arrested after crashing his vehicle into a deputy's squad on I-43 early Thursday morning, October 22nd.

It happened around 12:30 a.m.

Sheriff's officials say the deputy was inside his squad on I-43 southbound near National Avenue, with his emergency lights and large, overhead blinking arrow activated.

The 52-year-old driver of the striking vehicle, a 2013 Jaguar, struck the rear of the deputy's squad as the deputy was closing the right lane for road construction crews.

Sheriff's officials say a roadway behind the squad was also marked with an amber arrow board and orange construction signs indicating there were closures ahead.

Following the crash, the deputy had to be taken to the hospital for treatment after suffering neck and back pain. He was treated and released.

The driver of the striking vehicle wasn't hurt. He indicated he didn't see the squad.

The driver indicated he had six drinks at the Encore strip club on Dana Court in Milwaukee, according to Sheriff's officials. He was arrested for DUI - first offense, causing injury.

 

The Wisconsin State Patrol is handling the crash investigation.
