There was a large law enforcement presence on Milwaukee’s north side near 55th and Capitol on Monday, June 24.

A police chase was caught on camera on Monday, June 24.

There was a large law enforcement presence on Milwaukee’s north side near 55th and Capitol.

According to police, the chase began after officers conducted a traffic stop around 5 p.m. near 48th and Capitol. 

Police say officers observed suspected illegal drugs inside the vehicle and ordered the driver out of the vehicle. The driver, a 33-year-old man, attempted to put the vehicle in drive to flee, at which time a struggle ensued. 

One officer was able to get inside the vehicle, however, another officer was dragged and fell off. The driver continued to flee with one officer still inside and collided with two vehicles.

The driver eventually stopped near 55th and Capitol Drive and was arrested. Suspected illegal drugs were recovered.

A neighbor’s Ring camera caught it on camera around 5 p.m. In the video, a black SUV goes by with the driver's side door open, then followed by several officers who run out of their cars, yelling at someone to get on the ground.

The officer that was dragged, a 30-year-old male, was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. No other injuries were reported. 

Criminal charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
