95th and Allyn fatal shooting; 15-year-old boy dead

A 15-year-old boy was shot and killed early Tuesday morning, June 28 near 95th and Allyn. Family identified him as Dechale Hampton.

Distraught family members said they hope police can figure out what led to this violence.

"A 15-year-old child was lost," said Roy Neidfeldt, a minister who lives in the neighborhood. "That’s an incredibly young age to lose your life. I can’t imagine at all what the mom, or what the family is feeling, brothers and sisters are feeling."

Hampton’s heartbroken mother shared pictures of him and his siblings. She said he went to Riverside High School and loved basketball and rapping. Family members are not sure what led to his death miles away from his home.

"There’s really no good way to digest that," said Neidfeldt. "Nothing I can do can bring people back."

This was the second deadly shooting near this intersection in two days. A 25-year-old man died here Sunday. Police are looking for that shooter, too.

"It makes you pray a bit more," said Neidfeldt. "I’m very concerned. We’re not halfway through summer and this is what has gone on already."

That's the fear of so many who want the violence to come to an end so no more lives are lost.

Data from the medical examiner's office show this was the 15th homicide involving a child in 2022.
