99-year-old biker still thrilled over Harley-Davidson
NEW BERLIN (WITI) -- He's been around almost as long as Harley-Davidson itself, and Joe "Chester" Zawalich of Brookfield, is getting plenty of recognition during the 110th Anniversary Celebration.
Zawalich is one of, if not the, oldest Harley-Davidson riders in the world. On Friday, August 23rd, the seasoned biker filled autograph requests at Hal's Harley-Davidson in New Berlin.
Zawalich also spent a portion of the day giving rides in his sidecar.
"The reason I brought a sidecar, I say, if I fell over with a motorcycle at a stop sign, I said, 'what the hell would I do?' I can't lift it, so I bought a sidecar. With a sidecar, if I fall off, I can pick myself up," said Zawalich.
Zawalich says in his 83 years of riding, he's never had a speeding ticket or a crash. He had some advice for other riders, as well.
"I wish everybody good luck riding a bike, Harleys, and be careful when you're riding them. Don't try to show off with how fast you can go. That's foolish thinking," said Zawalich.
Zawalich says he's looking forward to the 110th Anniversary Celebration, especially since this is his first time in the parade.
