"A very important day:" Many celebrate Labor Day at Laborfest, Milwaukee's Labor Day Parade
MILWAUKEE -- Many in Milwaukee spent their day off Monday, September 5th at one of the Labor Day celebrations in the area.
Thousands attended Laborfest at Maier Festival Park, and the Labor Day Parade in downtown Milwaukee.
The parade began at Zeidler Square Park and ended at the Summerfest grounds, where Laborfest took place.
Labor groups said it was an opportunity to show unity and pride.
"A very important day. I mean, it shows how important labor is and the middle class is to Milwaukee -- so it's a day to celebrate them and everything that they've done for the working people," David Gipowski said.
Those attending Laborfest were asked to bring a new pair of socks to donate to Milwaukee Public Schools and local shelters.
