Abele, Barrett testify at state Transportation Commission hearing
MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett testified at Thursday's state Transportation Commission hearing.
The talks centered around two things: roads and money.
The two stressed the importance of re-prioritizing the state's road and bridge funding to make highways and streets safer. Abele says the community needs more transit options - not fewer.
"36,000 people every single day rely on the bus just to get to work. 19,000 people every single day just to get to school. If we want to grow jobs and grow the economy, we can't do it by under-funding how people get there," Abele said.
