Accidental fire started by 13-year-old boy causes $50K in damage to school playground

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating an accidental fire that happened at the Bryant Elementary School Playground near Fond du Lac and Silver Spring Drive on Tuesday, August 9th.

It happened around 2:30 p.m.

Police say a 13-year-old boy lit a piece of paper on fire, and believed he had extinguished it shortly thereafter.

Wood chips near the playground caught fire -- as did the playground equipment.

The Milwaukee Fire Department extinguished the fire and there is an estimated $50,000 in damage to the equipment, according to school staff.
